James Hunter Blair Bursary Fund |
It has been agreed that a fund be set
up in memory of James Hunter Blair as a tribute to a person whose unique
personality touched and enriched the lives of so many.
The purpose of the fund will be to
provide financial assistance for talented students from Ayrshire
studying music at the Royal Scottish Academy of
Music and Drama (RSAMD). In this way, the fund will benefit
young people from the part of Scotland of which Jamie was so fond and so
proud and, at the same time, will make a contribution to the world of
music and the arts, about which he was so passionate and knowledgeable.
Jamie was a particular supporter of the RSAMD and on a number of
occasions put on concerts at Blairquhan, performed by students from the
Academy.
Depending on the ultimate size of the
fund, the annual revenue or a combination of revenue and capital will be
applied to help one or more eligible students with their fees and living
expenses while attending the RSAMD. If at any time there is no eligible
student, the income of the fund will be rolled up with a view to
providing an improved bursary for the next eligible student.
Examples of the benefits that might be
provided by the fund (depending on its size):
£10,000 could provide bursaries
totalling £2,000 p.a. for 6 years;
£20,000 could provide bursaries totalling £3,000 p.a. for 8
years;
£40,000 could provide bursaries totalling £4,000 p.a. for 12
years.
A larger sum could fund similar bursaries over a longer period.
The fund will be called
The James Hunter Blair Bursary Fund.
It will be established as a designated fund within the RSAMD Trust and
its administration will be handled by the RSAMD in accordance with
objectives set by the Executors of Jamie’s Will.
It is hoped that as many as possible of
those who, in whatever capacity or context, counted Jamie as a friend,
colleague or genial host (or all three of those) will feel that they
would like to support this project.
