Newsletter - Spring 2008
2007 was a brilliant year for
Blairquhan. The first week of the year saw three weddings in one week
which meant that serious new year celebrations had to be delayed until
the Burns Suppers got going at the end of January.
Snowdrop Day in February
(in aid of Scotland’s Gardens Scheme charities and the Ayrshire
Rivers Trust) brought us over 400 visitors!
It really was a beautiful day and
we did great trade in snowdrop and firewood sales. |
 |
The icing on the cake the following day
was when we heard that Helen Mirren had won an Oscar starring as the
Queen in the film, The Queen.

In-between many wonderful wedding celebrations we had a few
outstanding events.Vintage
Tractor Day on Easter Monday saw almost 100 tractors parked for
picnics in front of the Castle. | |

In May we had a spectacular sale at
Christie’s in London which brought much needed financial stability
to the estate. The woodchip
boiler has been up and running at Milton for a year now and we
processed our first woodchip orders in time for
Christmas. | |

|
The house opening produced a steady
stream of visitors, old friends and new ones.

We celebrated on the final day with
dancers from the Basque region of Spain. |
 | |
The shooting and fishing seasons went
well.
(Although some
people
didn’t manage to catch
any salmon this year!) | | | | |
 | |
Ongoing discreet refurbishment of the
Dining Room (including a magnificent chandelier all
the way from America) and the
basement corridor complemented the opening of the new Eliza
Hunter Blair Exhibition in the art galleries earlier in the year. The website is being updated early
in 2008 and will include a web page on the Eliza Exhibition. |
Best wishes and hope to see you for a
visit in 2008.
