I
think the most interesting recent event has been the visit of the great
great nephew of William Burn, the Architect of Blairquhan, with his wife
and daughter.
We
also had the International Dendrologists Association to stay and a party
from the Royal Scottish Forestry Society to celebrate 150 years since
the founding of the oldest Forestry Society in the world.
The Shooting for the 2004/05 Season is now entirely booked and we have
had to turn away people who wish to come.
We
have had two Weddings, one Birthday, two companies filming here and a
party of French Tunnellers to lunch and the Kyle and Carrick Civic
Society to dinner.
The Annual General Meeting of the Scottish Landowners Federation South
West Region took place and 72 sat down to lunch afterwards.
There is a new pond in the Garden with fresh water coming into it
through the mouth of a stone lion. Jim Cuthbertson, the Estate Handyman
and general wizard is going to build a Japanese bridge over the pond in
time for our opening to the public.
Cloncaird
Castle is the next Castle to Blairquhan about two miles away. Over the
last 150 years it must be said that we have had our quarrels which have,
on occasion, amounted to something of a feud.
I am delighted to say that my new neighbours Mr. and Mrs. Ephraim
Belcher have become great friends and the feud is very much at an end.
