We have had a busy three months. The
village of Crosshill held their annual Fun Run through the estate in
May. The young and not so young put in a huge effort, some of them, I
think, forgetting that it was supposed to be fun they were trying so
hard.
|
In May and June we were delighted to
provide the venue for three weddings.
Dr. Willis Marker brought the
Bearsden and Milngavie group of the National Trust to see round the
castle and gardens. To quote Willis he has rarely known the members
go home so full of enthusiasm
a memorable day which made a lot of
friends for Blairquhan. |

Wedding in the flower garden |
Ayr Sketch Club paid us a visit in
early June, enjoyed a picnic; and, you never know, produced some future
masterpieces. Also, Caledonian Paper brought a party from Time magazine
who dined and stayed. ISP Alginate had a party of around 45 guests for
dinner.

All work and no play!
The estate staff took the ferry
from Stranraer across to Belfast for a day out.
Marguerite met them all for lunch,
but with no such thing as a free lunch they had to watch her on the
lunchtime news lobbying for children right to play. |
We were privileged to have a meeting of
the European Respiratory Society in July. I dont know that there have
ever been so many professors in the Castle at one time. (I tried to keep
my pipe well hidden). They included representatives from Norway,
Denmark, Italy, Ireland, England and Scotland.

The house and gardens
are now open to the public in the
afternoons until 7th August.
There are many special events at
the weekends:
falconry, florists, battle re-enactment, model boats, model cars and
of course Maybole Pipe Band and the Dalmellington Silver Band. |
Sadly, after many, many years of
working here, Kate Anderson, whom many of you will know, left us in
July. We had a memorable picnic lunch to mark the occasion at the
Approach Loch. I am sure that she will continue to take a great interest
in the affairs of Blairquhan, and I wish Kate and husband Oli all the
best for the future.
